The Longlevens area has a pleasant "community feel" and is well catered for in terms of local shops and facilities. On the Cheltenham road, opposite the Elmbridge road turning, there is a good-sized, modern Co-op supermarket (for times of opening see "Shops" on the menu. Within a hundred yards are Lloyd's Chemist , an Animal Hospital (Wood Veterinary Group), an Estate Agent (was Cox and Company - now Martin and Co 01452 528333) , Tesco Express mini supermarket, Hairdresser (Tyler-Creed 01452 305523), Cantonese Take-away (Wok Express), a Funeral Director (Goodwin's 01452 500770) and Ruddy's - a Fish and Chip shop. There is also a BP Petrol Station and a good Indian restaurant (The Balti Hut 01452 312422 which also does home deliveries).
A few hundred yards futher are located two GP Surgeries: Cheltenham Road Surgery at 16 Cheltenham Road, and Longlevens Surgery at 19b Church Road. The Longlevens Branch Library is also in Church Road. The King Edward VII pub, 50 yards from the Parish Church, serves a good range of reasonably priced meals in a pleasant atmosphere. Branching off the lower Cheltenham Road, at Oxstalls Lane, is the University of Gloucestershire (Oxstalls Campus) site. The Oxstalls Lane area of Longlevens includes a Garage/Petrol Station, Newsagent** , Hairdresser, Butcher, Fish and Chip shop and Laundromat.
**The nearest Post Office is at the Newsagent in Innsworth Lane, round the corner from the junction with Church Road, next to Nick Brown, the butcher.
A frequent bus service through Longlevens (the Cheltenham Road) operates to Gloucester town centre (approximately one and a half miles) and to Cheltenham (6 miles). During most of the day this runs at 10 minute intervals.
Much good work is done for the community through the Longlevens Neighbourhood Partnership which also has a notice board on the land outside the Co-op supermarket by the pedestrian crossing on the Cheltenham Road. Their Youth Action Group has won an award from Gloucester City Council for their work with young people.
The Longlevens Community Cinema shows family-friendly films (e.g. Toy Story 3) on a BIG SCREEN on a monthly basis. Location is Kendal Road Baptist Church .
